Modernisation of Water purification plant
The plant's 20 years old technology is cost-effectively updated with Aptus system:
The automation system of the plant originates from the 1980's and is still reliable in its' basic task of incoming raw water purification. However, because of the outdated plant communication links the plant operation can not anymore be remotely monitored and the functionality of the individual field equipments can only be visually checked. Thus the plant is not anymore properly integrated to the main water purification infrastructure and also the maintenance personnel does not receive the essential maintenance information.
The Aptus solution: all the important field equipment are networked by the combination of Aptus network and DI/DO&AI/AO modules. The network is used to communicate all the needed information to the control centre, where the system's main computer with the SCADA locates. The SCADA provides the final integration of different technologies, monitoring and control activities and HMI-interface. All the networked devices can be monitored and controlled through this system.
Examples of the Field equipment monitoring and control activities are: run/stop control & indication, indications of running hours with maintaining history, event history, trends and energy consumption.

After the modernisation the plant is fully integrated to the city's main water infrastructure. Also the maintenance personnel receives all the essential information for their duties.
With Aptus technology there is no need to remove the existing hardware and the customer is able to modernisate it's entire system phase to phase. Also by this modernisation the earlier closed technical interfaces are changed to open ones, this enables the sensible future system changes.
Lift Station monitoring
For the case of water pump or lift stations locating far from the plant, Aptus provides a remote alerting system of the emerging faults. This eliminates the need for on-site 24 hour monitoring. For instance, if the amperage of a certain pump gets too high, the maintaining personnel in the main plant control room receives an alarm of this, and they can directly go to the faulty site and fix the problem. In some instances the monitoring system is able to predict the over-amperage problems and thus making an alarm before the actual faulting takes place.
Big office building
The entire building system is combined and controlled by SCADA system. Aptus network is used for the light control push-buttons and to collect the temperature information. DI/DO&AI/AO modules control the HVAC system.
The reception personnel have their access to the system by their PCs; the whole system status is displayed here and the personnel are able e.g. to monitor and control every single light group and room temperatures from their computers.
The maintenance personnel are provided by graphics of the every single room temperature and usage. The temperature control of the room can easily be adjusted according to this information. Through these measures, considerable energy savings can be achieved.
Large private home
The entire building system is combined and controlled by Aptus SCADA system. Aptus network is used for the lighting automation and to collect the temperature information. DI/DO&AI/AO modules control the HVAC system.
